Shakespeare in the Parks: AS YOU LIKE IT

All the world’s a stage! This fourth annual free-to-the-public event brings Shakespeare’s madcap story of love, mistaken identity, and finding oneself, AS YOU LIKE IT, to five locations around the Triangle. It’s love at first sight for spirited Rosalind and frustrated wrestler-turned-poet Orlando, but when the Duke banishes Rosalind from court, Orlando must brave the vast and mysterious Forest of Arden to bring her home. But Rosalind, disguised as a boy, is enjoying her adventures too much to go home just yet – especially when she might just find her long-lost father in the forest’s depths. Can Orlando’s truly awful poetry lead her back to love? Will Rosalind’s father reclaim his rightful dukedom? Filled with witty banter, unforgettable characters, and some of Shakespeare’s most beautiful poetry, As You Like It is a celebration of nature, love, and the power of finding yourself in a changing world. Set in a fictionalized North Carolina and infused with local music, this abridged version is the perfect way to experience the magic of Shakespeare under the open sky or on your busy schedule.
Tickets are free; reservations are recommended. Reserved seating is also available.

Rhinoceros

Why are the residents of a small, sleepy French town turning into rampaging beasts? Apathetic everyman Bérenger becomes the last bastion of humanity, fighting against the stampede of the collective mind in Eugene Ionesco’s dark-comedy masterpiece. As his coworkers, loved ones, and best friend are eventually lured into the transformation, Berenger’s appreciation of the world he’s taken for granted grows – but will it be enough to stop the stampede? A timely allegory about the ease of totalitarianism and the struggle to maintain one’s individuality in a world where nonsensical things happen.

Shakespeare in the Parks: OTHELLO

The “green-ey’d monster” rears its ugly head in William Shakespeare’s classic tale of jealousy, power and prejudice. Noble Moorish general Othello, secretly married to his beloved Desdemona, chooses his friend Cassio for a promotion rather than his trusted but duplicitous ensign, Iago. Enraged, Iago weaves a complex scheme that spirals into a frenzy of suspicion, ultimately leading to tragic acts of violence and irreversible loss. This gripping 90-minute production preserves the classic language and core story of the full play, making it perfect for an afternoon of culture and entertainment for couples and busy families.
