Helen’s History Hop (Staged reading)
By John Frazier

Directed by Aurelia Belfield

Seventh-grade Helen has no interest in history until she is whisked away by the Queen of Time to meet  Harriet Tubman, Bessie Coleman and other prominent historical figures – not to HEAR about history, but to LIVE it. Will her newfound experience help her solve a modern-day crisis and save her classmate’s future? A time-traveling science fiction romp through Black history. Come for the reading, stay for talkback and thoughtful discussion about this new play from a local playwright, in the Performance Hall at the Hayti Heritage Center.

May 3 – June 15, 2025
Shakespeare in the Parks: Othello
By William Shakespeare
Adapted and Directed by Dan J Decker

The “green-ey’d monster” rears its ugly head in William Shakespeare’s classic tale of jealousy, power and prejudice. Noble Moorish general Othello, secretly married to his beloved Desdemona, chooses his friend Cassio for a promotion rather than his trusted but duplicitous ensign, Iago. Enraged, Iago weaves a complex scheme that spirals into a frenzy of suspicion, ultimately leading to tragic acts of violence and irreversible loss. This gripping 90-minute production preserves the classic language and core story, and is perfect for an afternoon of entertainment for busy families and professionals. Playing in outdoor venues in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Tarboro and others. Check back for full schedule!

STC would like to thank our Special Sponsor, The Hayti Heritage Center, for making our season possible:
